18 years ago, I was an idiot 😂

I’ve changed so much and matured beyond recognition. Sometimes I wish I could go back and install some wisdom into that young brain.

So here’s 10 things I wish I knew when I was 21….

(1) BE DIFFERENT

We try our best to fit in. That’s a bad idea. People that go places in life are usually the different ones. The weird ones. The ones that think outside the box. We are all born unique – there is no-one like you on this planet – so you don’t need to try to be different. You already are. So begin to accent your differences and be yourself. Stop trying to fit in.

(2) Shit happens – be happy anyway!

When younger, you’re tempted to think that in the future everything will be rosey. You’ll have all the things you want and all your ducks will be lined up. How did that work out for ya? 😂

If you think you’re gonna be happy when you “arrive” some day in the future, you’ll be waiting forever. Shit will happen. You’ll suffer loss and disappointment. People will die. Relationships will come and go. Screw it. Be happy anyway. The younger you realise this, the better!

I talk about all of this and more in my free book, ‘The Happy Book’ – click here to download. It’s aimed at improving your levels of well-being in just 7 days. I think you’ll like it. You can download it now by clicking here.

(3) read books. Now!

Reading changed my life…by changing my mind. From learning how to train, eat, building websites, become happy, be more productive, online marketing…it all came from reading books. You have to know that when you’re a reader, you can do anything.

I remember telling a friend that I thought that books were the most valuable things in the world. “Why? he asked. “Because you can do or become anything” – I answered.

Think of it like this – no matter what it is you want to do or be, someone else has already done it…and they’ve written a book about it. Go get that book! Use them as a model. You don’t need to re-invent the wheel.

These are books that have changed my life. Please check them out and consider getting them:

Maximum Achievement (UK/Europe link) by Brian Tracy

See You At The Top (UK/Europe link) by Zig Ziglar

Psycho Cybernetics (UK/Europe link) by Maxwell Maltz

Get The Edge (7-day audio program) (UK/Europe link) by Tony Robbins

(4) Start Training. NOW!

I didn’t get started training properly until I was about 25 or 26. If anything, I would have loved to have started sooner. You can radically change your body and your life. You’ll look and feel a lot better about yourself and life in general. The whole path of my life changed because of training.

You wouldn’t be reading this right now if I hadn’t have decided to start working out all those years ago. Apart from the physical and mental health benefits, the discipline you develop will bleed over into other areas of your life and you’ll become more capable and courageous in everything you do.

NOTE: I am now offering awesome Weight Loss Coaching via this site here. I’m an expert at this and have been getting men and women lean for over 10 years now. My clients are achieving amazing results. See their pics and get all the details here.

(5) Don’t care so much about what others think

Trust me, in 10 years, you’ll think it ridiculous how much you worried about what ‘that person’ thought of you.

Also, realise this – no-one is really thinking about your life that much. Just as you think about your own life more than other peoples’, everyone else does the same thing – they don’t care about your life. If you are holding back because of what others think, you’re exaggerating the situation. They are thinking about their own life. No-one really cares that much – and that’s great! It’s very freeing, actually 🙂 Also see my last article on 10 Ways To Stop Worrying.

(6) Binge drinking is stupid

Hey, I’m Irish, what else was going to happen? I started drinking really young – what a dumbass. I quickly developed something called Acid Reflux Disease, which is acid coming up the throat regularly. It burns like crazy and sometimes would happen every minute of every hour of every day. I still have it, by the way.

I also lost interest in making something of my life and got more depressed as I got older. These days, I drink on special occasions. That’s enough for me. If you’re young and want some advice, listen to this:

“If you want to be happy, look around at what the mass of men are doing and do the opposite”

(7) I can do anything put my mind to

Yep you’ve heard it before, but now I know it. Simply put, we all get what we focus on. No you don’t need to be the most talented or the most intelligent to succeed in life. Most people that do big things aren’t any of those things. But you do need to work. Hard work beats everything. It’s about having some grit! Read books and work hard – it gets you everwhere!

(8) I can change myself in any way I wish

You can too. I can build any character trait I like into my consciousness. Basically, we have all thought ourselves into being a certain way, and you can always unthink it, too 😉 . There is no permanent ‘you’ that you must settle for. You can be any type of person you want. Find someone you want to be more like and buy their book 😉 Just reading it will start to change your mind and re-wire your brain.

(9) People are basically good

Many years ago, I would have told you that the majority of people were not good. Now I believe the opposite. At the heart of it, people are good. They want to treat others well, even if they don’t always do it.

Those doing evil are miserable. Happy people don’t go around destroying people. Think about it; the last time you were blissfully happy, did you want to harm anyone? I bet you didn’t. People are good. People that seem not to be are themselves hurting.
